Chanika Nelson, MPA, is the Director of Research Operations of The Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute, Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group. Chanika serves as the subject matter expert on federally sponsored programs in the Mid-Atlantic States Region of Kaiser Permanente. Her primary responsibilities include: proposal development and submissions, post-award management, financial monitoring, and Federal Research Compliance. Chanika has thorough knowledge of OMB Curriculars A-21, A-110, A-122, and A-133, as well as FARS, DFARS, Export Controls, and contract negotiations. During her career in research administration, Chanika has worked in various research administration environments, including academic, nonprofit, and, in her current position, healthcare. She has expertise in proposal submissions to and management of awards from National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and Department of Defense (DOD).
Chanika received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Johnson C. Smith University, Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Old Dominion University, professional research administration training from Old Dominion University Research Foundation, and is a Certified Research Administrator (CRA).
