Tom Whiting has been a research analyst for the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI) of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) since May, 2017. Previous experience includes working on HEDIS Quality Measures; CAHPS and HOS survey data, and America’s Best Health Plans for NCQA. His primary responsibilities are to collaborate with MAPRI scientists to develop and execute analytic work plans to extract and analyze data from the Kaiser Permanente electronic health record and claims data. Tom currently is revising and maintaining the COPD Registry and is also involved in a retrospective analysis of commonly used drugs and incidence/progression of various forms of macular degeneration. An additional area of research is the development and use of natural language processing (NLP) to identify taxonomies for research in various diseases.

Tom graduated from North Carolina State University with a BA in Political Science and a MA in Public Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems.
