Brinda Somasundaram, MS, is a Research Data Analyst at the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI) which is part of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG). She joined MAPRI in 2018. As the Cancer Data Analyst in MAPRI, Brinda’s work is primarily focused on abstracting and analyzing cancer data for research, using SAS and Oracle. She creates and maintains the daily ETL of Tableau dashboards to aid in the daily workflow of tumor registrars. She reports cancer data on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis to ensure the cancer data is compliant with the standards of various jurisdictions and the Commission on Cancer (CoC). Additionally, she works on collaborative projects with John Hopkins, such as diagnostic errors in sepsis and stroke.
Prior to MAPRI, she worked as a Research Analyst in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) under the Department of Health and Human Services. Brinda graduated with a Master’s in Health Informatics (MS) from George Mason university and Bachelor’s in Dental Surgery (BDS) from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
